The Robert Crown Law Library is looking for an Academic Technology Specialist to join our SLS Educational Technology Hub (EdTech Hub). The EdTech Hub provides training and support to faculty, staff, and students. We strive to provide direct (in-person, email, virtual, phone, workshops) assistance to support the use of instructional technologies used at Stanford Law School (SLS).  In this role, you will respond to technical support request tickets via the ticketing system and troubleshoot to resolve issues on any of the tools and platforms used at the library and law school. Reporting to the Associate Director of Educational Technology, the Academic Technology Specialist is the first point of contact for any technical related questions or issues that concern any of the technologies used at SLS to support teaching and learning, and related law library projects.

In this role, you will actively encourage and support the use of computer-based tools by developing and implementing new tools and resources for instructors or students, assisting them with the tools, disseminating knowledge of these tools throughout the program or university, and creating and supporting an infrastructure that allows use of the tools supporting teaching and/or learning.  You will support instructors and teaching teams with the use of educational tools, both synchronous and asynchronous, such as the university’s LMS, collaboration software, multimedia tools, presentation tools and other instructional tools (e.g., Canvas, Zoom, Qualtrics, Poll Everywhere).

Your creativity will be encouraged as you enhance and maintain the technical training documentation and resources related to technologies and the effective use of instructional technologies used at Stanford.  We will encourage your participation in library projects and committee work.

Job description:

  • Determine multimedia, online, and educational technology needs for instructors and/or students, and provide or coordinate solutions. Provide assistance in the direct integration of technology into course curricula, extra-curricular or co-curricular learning, and/or research projects.
  • Develop relationships with service providers throughout the university to advocate needs and obtain resources for faculty and students.
  • Participate in the development of resources, seminars, courses, or workshops to disseminate information
    about uses of technology.
  • Recommend and implement library software, hardware, and multimedia equipment.
  • Assess training needs; develop and deliver workshops and user-friendly documentation.
  • Participate in or lead projects to develop innovative uses of technology for research, student learning, and/or community building.
  • Engage in initiatives to encourage faculty and/or students to adopt the use of appropriate computer technologies in their teaching, learning, co-curricular activities, or research.
  • Provide outreach and advocacy within or across departments for effective uses of educational technology.
  • Stay informed about educational technology developments through lists, publications, and conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned*.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree, and two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

  • Current knowledge of the latest software and design standards.
  • Knowledge of and ability to select, adapt and effectively use and/or recommend a variety of online learning tools.
  • Knowledge of and ability to select, adapt and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
  • Ability to plan, design, develop, and evaluate engaging multimedia learning/training objects.
  • Knowledge of instructional design methodologies, pedagogical issues, and best practices for classroom, online and hybrid learning.
  • Strong knowledge of learning management systems and various classroom and online learning technologies.
  • Ability to recognize and recommend necessary changes in user and/or operations procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of software engineering principles.

Highly Desired Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Experience in current web technologies.
  • Technology skills: MS Office, learning management systems, and supported tools (Zoom, Panopto, Poll Everywhere, Qualtrics).
  • Experience in developing and delivering technical training to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to define and solve logical problems for technical applications.
  • Proven problem solving and analytical thinking and ability to approach problems logically and systematically.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of learning management systems and various classroom and online learning technologies.
  • Ability to manage complex workload, and prioritize tasks using good judgment in providing services based on goals.
  • Excellent customer service skills, strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to bridge functional and technical resources by communicating effectively with individuals of varying systems expertise, and the ability to build strong working relationships with a diverse academic audience.
