The Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics seeks an Academic Program Professional to develop, implement, and administer the vision, strategy, and goals of the Skilling Teaching Laboratory. The core duties will include developing curriculum for project-based undergraduate courses, identifying opportunities for new capstone projects, advising and mentoring students, overseeing the Skilling Teaching Laboratory facility, and ensuring the safety of all activities in the Laboratory. This will include working with faculty and university facilities to prepare the laboratory for student use, strategize on long-term facility use, and organizing equipment purchases. The core duties will also include teaching and curriculum development in collaboration with faculty to further the goals of the laboratory and undergraduate program. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Finance & Operations and will collaborate with faculty and students on a variety of projects.

Your responsibilities include:
  • Teach and/or assist in the teaching and administration of courses. Develop curriculum.
  • Select, set up, operate, maintain, and train students in the use of laboratory equipment.
  • Monitor progress and provide suggestions for undergraduate projects.
  • Serve as safety officer for the Skilling Teaching Laboratory.
  • Contribute to and inform strategic planning and related funding and financial sustainability for the Skilling Teaching Laboratory and undergraduate program.
  • Source, collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program.
  • Flexibility in completing other assigned duties.


To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Interest in project-based engineering education.
  • Ability to advise, coach, and mentor students.
  • Basic knowledge of managing budgets and developing financial plans.
  • Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources. 

In addition, preferred requirements include:
  • A Master’s degree.
  • Prior experience developing curriculum.
